Quick answer: The Retreat Condominium is Techware’s finished freehold tower at Taman Seri Bukit Indah in Bukit Mertajam, handed over in April 2022. It holds 110 homes, five per floor from level 5 to 26, each laid out with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, sized from 1,237 to 1,475 sq ft, with two parking bays.
In a town where new condominiums often put ten or more homes on a floor, The Retreat stands out by stopping at five. That one decision shapes almost everything about living there, from how busy the lifts are to which home suits you. This guide walks through the five positions on a typical floor, the parking attached to each, and what to plan for after you collect the keys. All three plans are on our The Retreat Condominium property page.
How the Tower Is Stacked
The Retreat is one tower of 27 levels. The ground floor and levels 1 to 3 are parking, level 3A is a landscaped facilities deck, and homes occupy levels 5 to 26. Two lifts serve the building, the pump room is on the top level, and the refuse room is at ground level by the guardhouse, away from the homes. Techware, the developer, completed it in April 2022, and the building is freehold on a residential title.
Five Units, Three Sizes
The brochure names every position on the floor. From one end to the other they are Peace, Bliss, Grace, Joy and Wisdom, and the developer’s summary groups them into three types.
Peace and Wisdom (Type B, 1,475 sq ft) sit at the two ends of the floor. They are the largest units, and as end units they have outside walls on two faces. The extra area goes into roomier bedrooms and living space rather than another bedroom.
Bliss and Joy (Type A, 1,237 sq ft) are the next pair in from each end. They are the most compact homes in the building but keep the same three bedrooms and two bathrooms, with the living room opening onto a balcony.
Grace (Type C, 1,289 sq ft) is the single middle unit on each floor, slightly larger than its neighbours on either side.
Because every home has three bedrooms, choose on room size, position and parking rather than bedroom count. Ceilings are 10 feet throughout.
The Parking Question
Each home gets two parking bays, but how they are arranged depends on the type. Bliss, Joy and Grace come with a pair of side-by-side bays, so either car can leave at any time. Peace and Wisdom, the largest units, get one ordinary bay and one tandem bay, where one car parks behind the other. If two people in the household drive to work at different hours, that detail can matter more than the extra square footage, so ask for the bay numbers before you sign.
What Comes With the Keys
Units are handed over bare: the summary lists air-conditioning holes and no other fittings. Plan for a kitchen, wardrobes, lighting and air-conditioners, and ask the management office about renovation rules before you hire a contractor. On the plus side, a bare unit lets you fit it out exactly as you want.
Up on level 3A, residents share two pools (a main pool and a shallow one for children), a gym, a hall for gatherings, a playground, a barbecue spot and a reflexology walk. Security includes a guarded entrance, card access and an intercom to every home.
Where It Sits
Taman Seri Bukit Indah is a quiet residential pocket by Tokun Hill, a short way off Jalan Kulim and St. Anne’s Church; the hill gives the tower its green outlook. The developer’s map shows Jalan Rozhan leading towards AEON and Lotus’s, with Jit Sin School, Bukit Mertajam High School and Billion Supermarket in the surrounding streets. Jalan Kulim heads out to the Kulim Hi-Tech Park, while the expressway is reached at Juru or Tambun, which also lead on to the two Penang bridges. As in most of Bukit Mertajam, you will need a car.
Viewing
The developer keeps show units on levels 7 and 18 and can also open a bare unit. Appointments are booked a day ahead, and weekend visits need to be arranged by Friday afternoon. Visitors pick up keys at the management office, which keeps office hours on weekdays and Saturday mornings.
Who It Suits
The Retreat makes most sense for owner-occupiers: a couple or a family of four who want three bedrooms, a quiet corridor and two cars parked under cover. Parents with children at the town’s long-established schools are a natural fit. It makes less sense if you need a fourth bedroom, or if you want a home you can move into without fitting it out first, because every unit is handed over bare.
